Exclusive SICO RoomMaker Features

Padboard - Made of ½" (1.3cm) foam, over-laid on ½ (1.3cm) plywood that is slanted like a prop-up pillow for reading in bed. The padboard automatically folds over pillows and holds them in place when the bed is closed.

Headboard - Made of ¾" (2cm) Particle board with a 24oz. (672grams) Naugahyde vinyl protective covering that is available in six standard colors. Headboard keeps pillow from falling off of bed.

Compression "Power Pack System" - (A SICO® Exclusive) - Bed comes equipped with 2 Powerpak/cam units that make it easy to raise and lower any size bed with the touch of a finger tip. The coil is compressed when the bed is lowered to the floor and expands back to its original position when the bed is stored in the upright position. Using this technology, the coil is never fatigued by stretching like traditional Murphy style bed springs that lose elasticity over time and become difficult to operate.

Fully Adjustable Bed Mechanism - Allows for precise tension adjustments.

SICO's® Premier Innerspring Mattress - Offers the sleeping comfort of a conventional bed over hide-a-way and roll-a-way beds. Bedding is custom made to stringent SICO® specifications. Choose quality SICO® bedding or provide your own innerspring mattress.

The Box Spring - The box spring is attached to the bed frame with screws, and the mattress is secured to the box spring with a velcro mattress strap.

Bed Frame - Constructed of 16 gauge durable C.R.E.W. steel tubing. • Rubber Corner Bumpers - Protect the corners of your bed.

Handle / Leg Support - Handle doubles as a way to pull the bed down and acts as leg support. Or, you can use bed face molding as legs and handles (custom).

Six Bed Sizes - Designed to accommodate all standard bed sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Double, Double XL Queen & King sizes available.

Mounting System - May be floor or wall mounted. Operates independently of the cabinets or walls around it.

Pillow Storage - Pillows can be left on the bed when folded.

Recess Concealment - Bed comes completely out of the recess for sleeping.

Face Panel - A decorative face panel becomes a finished wall panel when the bed is raised. No doors to bother with.

Hidden Mechanics - THE ROOM MAKERS® mechanics including power packs are concealed out-of-sight.

Warranty - Comes with a 5-Year Warranty on frame and mechanism. Lifetime warranty on welds.

RonThe SICO Room Maker model of wall beds is the 'work horse' of Murphy Bed type systems. Because you can add lift mechanisms to the arc welded steel frame, just about any design theme can benefit from it's famous 'Two Finger Operation'

When we go to a trade show, I always include the Room Maker with it's automatic storage headboard. People are always impressed with the smoothness of a real mattress and box spring set floating up and down being operated by 8 year old children.

This is the model we consider our "Hotel Flying Bed". The Room Maker can be completely made up with blankets, sheets and pillows. When the guest arrives, all they have to do is pull the bed down. It is completely ready for the exhausted traveler.

The Room Maker is unique from any other Wall Bed operation. When the mattress and box springs are lowered to the floor, they extend completely outside the storage furniture. While this requires more extension into the room, it certainly is luxury combined with ease of access for real sleeping comfort.

A design feature we like to exploit is covering the headboard and box spring in fabric. This feature should be coordinated with your bedcovering selection. When complimented with the picture you hang inside above the headboard, you have a nice designer touch. Standard with each SICO wall bed is your choice of painted frame colors.

Go ahead and ask us! How much weight can the Room Maker lift? In our 23 years use of this SICO wall bed, we haven't ever maxed out the capacity! Because each compression coil chamber can accommodate 5 different strengths of lift force, you can perfectly match the weight being lifted.

Ideally we like to see the Room Maker attached to the floor. For installation where that is not an option, an adaptation plate is now available for attachment to the stud base plate in the wall.

Electric Motor Assist. It still surprises me when this option is requested. The Room Maker still uses the same compression coil lift force, we just add an electric motor to control the lifting and lowering. This is a rather technical entailing addition, but for you James Bond type…, it is the cat's meow.

And…, another option is the Sidefold Room Maker. This model folds up length wise instead of on it's head. The extension into the room is less, and the height is only the width of the mattress instead of it's length.

A complete installation manual is included with each SICO wall bed. This 16 page instruction outline is backed up with an 800 number to call if you have a question.

How SICO RoomMaker
Mechanism Works

Back in 1980 when I met Mr. Hal Wilson at his company named SICO, Inc. there was only one wall bed. The Euro Bed was a pipe dream.

The SICO RoomMaker should be referenced as our 'retro wall bed'. It is like a muscle car from the 70's. This mechanism combination and welded tubular steel frame can lift any weight of mattress and design bedface.

I receive telephone calls almost daily describing the gas chamber, the compression chamber, the hydraulic lift, the strange cylinder bolted to the floor. Of course I know they're referencing the mechanism on the SICO RoomMaker. It is my purpose in this article to explain how this compression coil works so evenly in making the bed go up and down.

In the graphic illustration you can see how the coil inside the cylinder is compressed when the frame is 90° rotated. Think of it as a ball point pen action. I've never seen a ball point pen wear out. You will notice that the cable compressing the coil has a graduated cam to increase strength of lift force.

Suggested life of this Murphy Bed is 30 years, being used three times a day. It is built like a battleship because it was made for the hospitality trade only. We didn't consider the residential market worth recognition in 1980. But then, some of you found this in hotels and forced us to sell the mechanism for your project. While you love the bed and it's fingertip operation, you hated the fact we threw the mattress and box springs all the way out of the storage cabinet. While I was pleased and a true believer in the RoomMaker mechanism frame, the SICO marketing people decided to invent the EuroBed. (Related story to follow.)

This bed has no limitation. You can't make me say I can't lift that or, I can't accommodate your 16" thick mattress. Feel welcome to call our office for advice on how we can make your bed disappear!
